Alberta Referendum Oct 2026

I met with other lawyers yesterday to determine a useful communication strategy to fight for our rights as Canadians in light of the referendum question as to whether Alberta should secede from Canada. There will be lots to analyze and discuss in the months ahead. As a proud Canadian I will add my voice to the battle for the soul of Albertans - who neither want to leave the federation nor want foreign actors interfering in our affairs. We are of course going to get interference from groups in the USA as the debates continue over the summer. It is noteworthy that Premier Smith has set a whole series of referendum questions, many of which, if voted favourably on, would lead to the effort to convince other provinces and Canada to alter the Constitution. The questions on immigration are particularly troubling - seeming to direct discontent at a vulnerable group and divide us as Albertans at this unruly and dangerous time. President Trump will continue to make threats against Canada and could well use the vote on separation as the perfect pretext to intervene directly, and take control of our resources. The time to start defending ourselves is now.
